Therapy in Sindh
You can see a therapist online from anywhere in Karachi, in Urdu or English, by video. If you prefer in-person care, Civil Hospital, JPMC and Dow’s Institute of Behavioral Sciences have psychiatry services, and Karwan-e-Hayat offers free or subsidised care. In an emergency, call Rescue 1122 or police 15.
Overview
Karachi speaks many languages at home. In the 2023 census, about half of the people in Karachi’s seven districts gave Urdu as their mother tongue. Pashto, Sindhi and Punjabi were the next most common, and Balochi, Saraiki and Hindko were also spoken by many households.
In person, the city has public psychiatry departments at Civil Hospital Karachi and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, a university-run psychiatry institute under Dow University of Health Sciences, and the non-profit Karwan-e-Hayat, which has centres in Keamari and Korangi. These services matter most if you need a psychiatrist, medication, a hospital bed or rehabilitation.
Online therapy fits around that. Safe Healing sessions are one-to-one video calls on Google Meet, for adults 18 and over, in Urdu or English, so you can talk from home or a quiet room at work without crossing the city. The list on this page shows which therapists are currently available. Online sessions are not an emergency service: if you or someone else is in danger, use the numbers below.

Sindh Mental Health Act 2013
Sindh’s own mental health law lets people be assessed and treated on a voluntary basis, sets time limits on holding someone for assessment (up to 28 days) or urgent admission (up to 72 hours), and bars the press from publicising a patient’s identity without their choice. It also says a person who attempts suicide should be assessed by an approved psychiatrist and treated if they have a mental disorder.
