Therapy in Punjab
In Lahore you can see a therapist online from home or use the city’s public services. The Punjab Institute of Mental Health on Jail Road offers free outpatient care, and Mayo, Services and Jinnah hospitals run psychiatry departments. In an emergency, call Rescue 1122 or police 15.
Overview
Lahore is home to the Punjab Institute of Mental Health, the province’s specialist public psychiatric hospital, and the teaching hospitals of King Edward Medical University, Services Institute of Medical Sciences and Allama Iqbal Medical College each run a psychiatry department. Public clinics are busy: PIMH alone sees several hundred outpatients a day.
In the 2023 census, nearly three in four people in Lahore district gave Punjabi as their mother tongue and about one in five gave Urdu. If you switch between Punjabi, Urdu and English, it helps to find a therapist you can talk to in the language you think in.
Online therapy fits alongside these services rather than replacing them. A video session can save a long trip across the city and can happen in a private room at home. If you need medication, a diagnosis, admission or urgent help, a psychiatrist or a hospital is the right place. On Safe Healing, adults 18 and over meet a therapist one to one over Google Meet, speaking Urdu, English or a mix of both.
